I spent the better part of the last 2.5 years in a vicious cycle of dissatisfaction with my career. When I entered nursing school it was for the sole purpose of becoming a #PICU nurse. I started my career at a level I trauma center in NY. My preceptors , educators, and role models from my time there are top notch. It was a relatively cohesive unit, with a mutual respect across disciplines (for the most part). I saw a lot. I learned a lot. And I fell in love with what I thought would be my life’s work. Since relocating to the state of Florida I have not had the same experience. I don’t find the same fulfillment. I have worked in two facilities, both of which leave much to be desired. While I have met some incredible practitioners, my passion for this work has sadly escaped me. Do I romanticize my experience in NY? Maybe on some level. Every place has its problems. But I would trade every problem I’ve encountered since I left that unit to transplant it right here so I can get back to the things I loved to do. Unfortunately, that’s impossible. So, here I am. At a crossroads. A huge part of my identity has been altered. After much deliberation, procrastination, and flat out depression surrounding my career, I have finally found something to be passionate about again. I intend to share my journey with you because there are big things to come as I work towards this new goal. #PICUnurse #transitions
